Europe and its internal crises
Europe is in the midst of profound upheaval. The rise of populist movements, growing economic disparities, uncontrolled migration and, last but not least, the war between Russia and Ukraine have shaken up the continent's political landscape. While nationalist currents are challenging the traditional party systems and polarizing social discourse, the cornerstones of the European project are coming under increasing pressure. The economic tensions between northern and southern Europe, the challenges of European migration policy and the dwindling consensus on institutional reforms are jeopardizing the cohesion of the Union. At the same time, Russia's aggression has fundamentally changed the post-war order in Europe - with far-reaching geopolitical and security policy consequences. In the face of these challenges, a renewed commitment to European unity and solidarity is essential in order to maintain social cohesion and the ability to act politically in a changing world.
