Franco-German relations in evolving european dynamics

Six years ago, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel signed the Treaty of Aachen, a new edition of the Élysée Treaty. Franco-German friendship was to be further deepened and cooperation intensified. On the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the Treaty of Aachen, we are highlighting the importance and - in times of turbulent political tensions - necessity of Franco-German relations. The inauguration of US President Donald Trump on the same day highlights the need for a common European foreign policy. However, the current dramatic developments and escalations in the Middle East are also challenging the European Union.
